I dropped a valuable item in an underground container
Have you dropped something of value in an underground container? Then please get in touch with the contact centre of the municipality of Amstelveen by calling 020 540 49 11. Our staff will see what they can do for you.
Please state:
• The unique container number, which you will find on the container.
• The time it happened.
• What exactly was dropped into the container.
Important
• If you are under 18, you will have to get an adult to report the problem for you, as you are not allowed to report it yourself.
• It is not possible to arrange the additional emptying of containers for textiles, glass or paper/cardboard.
• Did you dropped something in the textile container? Please contact Sympany via 020 - 657 00 09. Sympany charges additional costs to empty the textile containers.
The employee of the Customer Contact Centre records your details and then contacts the waste management department, which will check whether the container has been emptied. If the container has already been emptied, it will no longer be possible to find your item.
Emptying the container
Are your belongings still in the container? Then we will make an appointment with you to meet at the container. At the container, you will sign a contract. Then the container is emptied.
Then you take your own transport to the municipal disposal site at Langs de Werf 10 (business park Legmeer) and look for the items yourself. If you cannot do this yourself, please bring someone who can do it for you. Waste management employees are not allowed to search, they will make sure that you are only looking for the object that you have reported missing.
Sadly, the chance that you retrieve your item is very small. It depends on the object and the amount of waste inside the container.
Costs
Trying to find an object in an underground container is time consuming and costly. This is why you will have to pay these costs yourself. You can find information on this in the Rates Table for household waste. The rates are charged per hour, with a maximum of two hours. The search is called off after two hours.
